FilmCraft: a free, open-source Premiere Pro alternative
FilmCraft is the video editor of the Crafting Apps: an open-source, clean-room take on the Adobe Premiere Pro workflow. It has Source and Program monitors, every trim tool, a complete Lumetri-style color panel, loudness meters to EBU R128, and H.264, HEVC, ProRes, VP9 and AV1 codecs written from scratch in Rust, with no FFmpeg inside.
The online version is the official web build from the v0.7.2 release (2026-10-12). It runs locally in your browser; a desktop browser with WebGPU or WebGL2 works best.

Three-point editing, ripple, roll, slip, slide, rate stretch and razor, a Trim Monitor, and Editing, Assembly, Color, Effects and Audio workspaces.
Lumetri-style color
Basic Correction, Creative looks, curves, color wheels, HSL Secondary and vignette, graded in 32-bit float linear light with true scopes.
93 video effects
Premiere 26's full Video Effects bin plus around 30 transitions, keyframes with value and velocity graphs, and a GPU compositor on wgpu.
Broadcast audio
Loudness and true peak to ITU-R BS.1770 and EBU R128, track and clip mixers, automation in Read, Latch, Touch and Write, and its own DSP effects.
Own codecs, no FFmpeg
H.264, HEVC, ProRes, AV1, VP9 and more, implemented from the public specifications and tested bit-exact against reference decoders.
Never lose work

How to download and install FilmCraft
- Open the official FilmCraft GitHub releases or getartcraft.com/apps/filmcraft.
- Windows: run
filmcraft-0.7.2-windows-x64.msi(or the portable zip; ARM64 and x86 builds exist). - macOS: open
filmcraft-0.7.2-macos-universal.dmg, which is signed and notarized for Apple Silicon and Intel. - Linux: use the AppImage, or the
.deb,.rpmor Flatpak for your distro. - Optionally verify the file against
SHA256SUMS.txtin the same release.
FilmCraft FAQ
Does FilmCraft need FFmpeg?

No. Its video and audio codecs and containers are its own Rust code, written from the ITU-T, ISO and IETF specifications.
Can FilmCraft export MP4?

Yes. It exports H.264 MP4 with AAC audio using its own encoders, plus ProRes, DNxHR, MXF, PNG sequences, animated GIF and WAV.
Is FilmCraft free?

Yes. FilmCraft is free and open source under MIT OR Apache-2.0. There is no subscription, no account and no telemetry.
Can I use FilmCraft online?

Yes. FilmCraft compiles to WebAssembly, and this site hosts the official v0.7.2 web build at artcraftsuite.org/app/filmcraft/. It runs entirely in your browser, and files you open are not uploaded.
Where can I download FilmCraft safely?

Only from getartcraft.com/apps/filmcraft or the Releases page of github.com/storytold/filmcraft. Avoid look-alike GitHub repos that offer a "local zip" or password-protected archive: they are not the official project.
Does FilmCraft run on Windows, Mac and Linux?

Yes. Releases include Windows installers and portable zips (x64, x86, ARM64), a universal macOS DMG, Linux AppImage, deb, rpm and Flatpak (x86_64 and aarch64), FreeBSD builds and the web version.
