VectorCraft: a free, open-source Illustrator alternative
VectorCraft is the vector illustration app of the Crafting Apps: an open-source, clean-room take on Adobe Illustrator. It has the Pen and Direct Selection tools, exact Pathfinder booleans, live blends, gradient mesh, perspective grid, envelope distort and multiple artboards. It renders 20,000 shapes in about 27 ms.
The online version is the official web build from the v0.10.0 release (2026-10-12). It runs locally in your browser; a desktop browser with WebGPU or WebGL2 works best.

Real Bézier editing
Pen, Curvature and Direct Selection with real anchors and handles, Smart Guides, and a contextual task bar.
Exact Pathfinder
Curve booleans that never say "cannot perform operation": unite, minus front, intersect, exclude and divide on true curves.
Live effects
Live blends with editable spines, gradient mesh, radial and grid Repeat, Envelope Distort and an Appearance panel with stacked fills and strokes.
Perspective grid
Art attached to perspective planes stays editable. Combine it with multiple artboards and Export for Screens.
Open files
First-class SVG and PDF in and out, PDF-compatible .ai import, and a documented JSON native format that diffs cleanly in Git.
Agent-native
Every menu item, tool gesture and dialog is reachable over a JSON control channel and an MCP server, so Claude and other agents can draw and export.

- Open the official VectorCraft GitHub releases or getartcraft.com/apps/vectorcraft.
- Windows: run
vectorcraft-0.10.0-windows-x64.msi(or the portable zip; ARM64 and x86 builds exist). - macOS: open
vectorcraft-0.10.0-macos-universal.dmg, which is signed and notarized for Apple Silicon and Intel. - Linux: use the AppImage, or the
.deb,.rpmor Flatpak for your distro. - Optionally verify the file against

Can VectorCraft open Illustrator .ai files?

It opens PDF-compatible .ai files, which is the default way Illustrator saves them. Native-only .ai data without PDF compatibility is not supported.
Is VectorCraft good for SVG work?

Yes. SVG is a first-class format for import and export, alongside PDF, PNG, JPEG and WebP.
Is VectorCraft free?

Yes. VectorCraft is free and open source under MIT OR Apache-2.0. There is no subscription, no account and no telemetry.
Can I use VectorCraft online?

Yes. VectorCraft compiles to WebAssembly, and this site hosts the official v0.10.0 web build at artcraftsuite.org/app/vectorcraft/. It runs entirely in your browser, and files you open are not uploaded.
Where can I download VectorCraft safely?

Only from getartcraft.com/apps/vectorcraft or the Releases page of github.com/storytold/vectorcraft. Avoid look-alike GitHub repos that offer a "local zip" or password-protected archive: they are not the official project.
Does VectorCraft run on Windows, Mac and Linux?

Yes. Releases include Windows installers and portable zips (x64, x86, ARM64), a universal macOS DMG, Linux AppImage, deb, rpm and Flatpak (x86_64 and aarch64), FreeBSD builds and the web version.
